Capturing Passion & Purpose: Portrait of a Young Musician in Camas, WA
There is something especially meaningful about photographing young people who are pursuing a passion with dedication and heart. Recently, I had the privilege of photographing an inspiring middle school musician here in Camas, Washington. She wanted to capture some professional headshots for upcoming musical competition entries.
Music has already become such an important part of her story. A talented flutist and pianist, she spends countless hours practicing, learning, and refining her craft — all fueled by a genuine love of music. As she begins entering musical competitions, she wanted portraits that felt polished, authentic, and reflective of who she is as a young artist.
Professional portraits for competition submissions can make a powerful first impression. Beyond simply attaching a photo to an application, these images help communicate confidence and professionalism.
During her portrait session, our goal was to create headshots that felt natural, confident, and timeless while also highlighting her connection to music. We focused on expressions that felt genuine and approachable, creating a collection of images she can confidently include alongside her competition entries for both flute and piano performances.
Portrait sessions for young musicians are unique because they are about more than just taking photos. They are about documenting a moment in time — the early stages of dreams, dedication, and artistic growth. Whether preparing for competitions, auditions, recital programs, or personal branding as a young performer, having professional images can help students present themselves with confidence.
As a portrait photographer based in Camas, WA, I love helping families celebrate milestones and passions that matter. From musicians and performers to athletes, students, and creatives, every session tells a story.
To this talented young musician: thank you for sharing your passion and allowing me to help capture this exciting time. I cannot wait to see where your love of flute and piano takes you.
If your student is preparing for competitions, auditions, performances, or simply wants portraits that celebrate who they are right now, I would love to help create something meaningful together.
