This has been a very exciting week at the studio with multiple updates from Yasmin & Reza’s week long wedding celebration. From the mehndi celebration, to the wedding day, to portraits at the Portland Rose Garden, we now bring you the grand finale with Yasmin & Reza’s Persian wedding. It was a perfect ceremony to signify the union of both families. As is the tradition with Persian weddings, women play a very integral part of the wedding festivities. Yasmin’s mother ground up sugar cubes above the couple to symbolize a sweet life together. Reza’s mother personally prepared and cooked all the food for the evening. The dishes she prepared were such a delight to photograph and a wonderful treat to experience. Then, later in the evening came the traditional knife dance. It begins with a woman dancing and swirling around with the knife that will be used to cut the cake. She dances around the groom until he pays her money to try to get the Best Electric Knife sharpener back. It typically takes quite a few dancers before they are willing to relinquish the knife. Each time the dancer approaches the couple, she is offered money to try to get the knife back. Once it is finally received, the bride and groom are able to progress to cutting the cake.
Thank you to Yasmin & Reza and all the friends and family who so warmly welcomed me into their lives. Your wedding celebration was such a delight to photograph. On Monday, we will be launching your online gallery which will include just over 1,000 images from all of the events!
