When Kelly contacted me saying that tulips were her favorite flowers and that she and her husband Christian wanted to capture a maternity session at the Wooden Shoe Tulip Fest, I knew we were in for a fun portrait session. The tulips are in bloom for a very short period of time each year so aligning a portrait session with the tulip fest can be a bit of a challenge especially when considering people’s schedules and the unpredictable weather. In addition, the tulip fest understandably draws an enormous crowd.
I spoke with one of the employees who said approximately 30,000 people visited the tulip farm on the day we photographed this session. One of the ways to try to reduce the large number of visitors is to schedule the session toward the later part of the day. So, we met up about an hour before the tulip fest closed and were able to find a number of great locations to photograph.
