Vendor Spotlight: Charlotte’s Weddings & More

Charlotte’s Weddings & More held their Annual Open House event in March of this year.  Top wedding professionals were available to offer tips and suggestions on the wedding planning process and to showcase their products and services.  Multiple drawings and giveaways were offered throughout the show with the grand prize being a $1,000 credit toward any wedding gown.

Just prior to the Open House, we had the exclusive opportunity to go behind-the-scenes and capture the models getting ready and modeling some of the latest wedding dress designs available at Charlotte’s Weddings & More.  Special thanks to Portland Make-up & HairBella Bloom Florals, and Charlotte’s Weddings & More for collaborating on this project.

Julie & John | Feb 19, 2017

It was a beautiful snowy afternoon up at Timberline Lodge for Julie and John’s winter wedding.  Everyone was nestled inside getting ready for the big day.  Julie was accompanied by her mother and close friends as she got ready for her wedding day.  In the tradition of wearing something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, Julie wore her great-great grandmother’s pearls (that were over 100 years old) as well as her grandmother’s bracelet.  Her unbelievably cute wedding shoes were the something blue.  Their vintage charm caught my interest right away and they were a real treat to capture.

John and his groomsmen wore matching socks of the iconic PDX carpet graphic.  One can only wonder what a photo might look like of someone wearing those socks standing on the PDX carpet.  It would be very meta.

We found a more private area at the lodge for the couple to see each other for the very first time.  John was so excited to finally have the opportunity to see Julie, and for the two of them to spend some time together as we captured portraits of them throughout the lodge.  There are so many unique locations throughout Timberline Lodge that makes capturing portraits extra fun and exciting.  The narrow stone archway, the large expanse of windows, and the oversized painting of R.L. Kohnstamm with one of Timberline’s famed St. Bernards are among my favorite spots for portraits.

One of John’s best friends officiated the wedding ceremony.  The private intimate gathering enjoyed some comic levity when the bride’s father’s phone rang playing “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly” theme song.  There is something about that song combined with the setting of Timberline Lodge during a wedding ceremony that just fits together perfectly.

Immediately following the ceremony, guests gathered around for a big group photo of everyone (with the bride and groom at center of course).  As guests worked their way toward the wedding reception, the entire wedding party snuck outside for a quick group photo out in the snow.  We captured a few additional photos of Julie & John outdoors as well.  Having a light dusting of snow during those pictures was absolutely perfect for capturing the essence of their winter wedding at Timberline Lodge.

Julie and John are both avid readers and wanted to integrate that into the theme of their wedding.  In lieu of table numbers, Julie and John used quotes from some of their favorite authors that had personal meaning to them.  Their centerpieces incorporated books and even their wedding cake was made to look like a stack of books.  Their wedding cake was extremely unique and in fact some guests even thought it was their signature album!

Following dinner, and the toasts and cake cutting, guests headed out onto the dance floor for a night of celebration.  The dance floor was very active as guests showed off their best dance moves.  John’s impressive air guitar left him virtually breathless by the end of the evening.  It was an all out blast and perfect celebration for two incredibly wonderful people who are now officially newlyweds.  Congratulations Julie & John!

Baby’s First Year

One of our most popular photography packages for new parents is our Baby’s First Year Package.  It includes a maternity session (captured at 32-36 weeks into the pregnancy), a newborn session (captured within 7 days of birth), a 6 month session, and a 1 year session.  It is a great way to document highlights from a newborn’s first year of growth.  A more comprehensive option is to have your newborn photographed every month for an entire year.  We travel to your home for this signature offering and select a specific location within the home where the newborn will be photographed every month.  That way the background and setting stays consistent while the growth and development of your newborn is emphasized.  You have the option of having your newborn in the same exact outfit for each pose or to vary the outfits for each session.

Each monthly session lasts 10-15 minutes, with a 30 minute mini-session offered at 6 months and a full blown 1 hour session at the 1 year mark at our photography studio (after the 1 year photo is captured at your home to complete the series).  So 12 images in all with a 1 hour family session captured at the studio once the newborn reaches 1 year.  We then compile your favorite poses from each session into a collage which you have the option of purchasing as a framed photograph, a custom gallery wrap, or a modern print mounted on metal.  The final piece, which is mounted and ready to hang in your home, is offered as a 20×20, a 30×30, or a 40×40.

There are a number of ways to capture your newborn child and we enjoy customizing the experience to meet your needs.  Whether it is a comprehensive monthly documentation of your child, highlights throughout their first year, or focusing on those first days following their birth, the images and memories captured are sure to be treasured for many, many years.

Professional Headshots in Portland

We understand how challenging it can be to set aside time during your busy day to have a professional headshot captured.  That is why we offer the option of coming to your office for the session.  We have a portable mobile studio that enables us to quickly set up in the smallest of spaces and capture professional headshots on location.

Have a common area or meeting room at your office location?  We can even setup there and anyone who is present that day in the office can come by for a quick professional headshot session.  We are outfitted to come by and capture as many headshots as you need.

We were recently hired by Backs on Burnside to provide them with updated professional headshots.  We setup in an empty room in the basement (so as to not impact any clients) and were able to capture 10 employees in approximately 1 hour.  Within 24 hours of the session, we provide our clients with an online gallery to preview the images.  Once the images are chosen by the client, we then electronically deliver the finished images within 1 business day.

To schedule your professional headshot session either at your office or at our photography studio in downtown Portland, simply give us a call at 503-475-3306.  We make the process simple, efficient, and fun.

Syd & Scott | February 18, 2017

I knew from the moment I met Syd and Scott that their wedding would be an absolute blast to photograph.  For them, it was all about being around their closest friends and family members and spending the day together celebrating.  We were in touch many times during the planning process for their wedding and all of their efforts paid off in a spectacularly fun stress-free day.

Syd and Scott chose the Cornelius Pass Roadhouse for their wedding celebration.  They held their wedding ceremony in the octagonal barn.  While I have photographed at the Cornelius Pass Roadhouse a handful of times in the past, for Syd and Scott’s wedding I wanted to try a different approach to capturing their wedding inside the historical barn.  I strategically placed a couple of flashes up into the rafters of the barn that I was able to control remotely.  This gave me a lot of creative freedom in how I documented their ceremony and reception.  I love taking calculated risks like these at weddings (and challenging myself creatively) – especially when the results pay off.  I was able to create more dynamic lighting than is otherwise present inside the barn.

Following the couple exchanging their vows and guests mingling during cocktail hour, everyone went into a tented area for dinner and toasts.  We then proceeded back to the octagonal barn for the remainder of the evening for cake cutting and dancing.  Eric with All Wright Music kept the dance floor active throughout the evening while Syd, Scott, and their entire crew busted out some serious dance moves.  Keith, with White Night Weddings, captured the entire day on video.  Special thanks to Nate with Nate Smith Photography for assisting me throughout the day and coordinating and executing our epic lighting idea.

Congratulations to Syd & Scott!  Looking forward to meeting up later this week at the studio when we setup the projector to view all their wedding images together for the very first time.

Cake Smash Portrait Session

When it comes to photographing those turning one, families oftentimes opt for either a portrait session together at a local park or a cake smash session where their little one gets to indulge in eating their birthday cake on their own.  I like the idea of combining both especially when a birthday party is involved.

We had the opportunity to capture Miss D’s birthday party celebration with her closest friends and family members.  She loved playing games with her cousins and especially enjoyed getting to eat cake on her own.  She made a grand ol’ mess and indulged in every minute of it.

Based on Miss D’s nap schedule we scheduled a follow-up family session at the house the very next day.  We had the opportunity to capture her in her nursery playing with some of her favorite toys as well as some images of her with her dad supporting her favorite team of all time – the Seattle Seahawks.

It has been such a treat watching Miss D grow and getting to capture various milestones in her life.  It is hard to believe that she is already one, but we look forward to many more photo sessions in the future.  These images from her cake smash portrait session are certainly going to be fun to look back on in the years to come.

Professional Headshots in Portland

Making the investment in a professional headshot is a simple and effective way to enhance your presence in the marketplace.  Take a gander through social media sites like Facebook and LinkedIn and notice the difference between individuals who use selfies or oddly cropped photos as opposed to those who hire a professional to capture their headshot.  The difference is very noticeable and the investment is incredibly small when considering the ramifications of not presenting yourself the best way possible.

Depending on your career field, we work with you in determining a location and background that best suits the style of your industry.  Your headshot can be creative and edgy, it can be simple yet sophisticated, it can be professional and authoritative.  Whatever your choice, we work with you in making sure your professional headshot presents the best version of you.

Give us a call at 503-475-3306 or email us directly at paul@paulrichstudio.com to schedule your headshot session today.  Within 24 hours of your session, you receive an online gallery of images to choose from and we send you your final selections electronically so you receive everything as quickly as possible.  Most of our clients have their final headshots by the very next day.  The files are optimized and ready to upload to social media sites as well as to print for business cards, brochures, and even billboards if you want to go really big!
