Maternity Session | Sauvie Island

Lindsay & JR probably look familiar as we photographed their wedding this past summer at Camas Meadows in Washington.  We have photographed them on a number of occasions but most recently for their maternity session.  Lindsay forwarded a small handful of images from Pinterest as inspiration to show me the style she was looking for and I knew right away that Sauvie Island would make the perfect location.  It is hard not to fall in love with the long tall grass, rickety fences, and rustic barns.  Lindsay & JR were looking for something that was relaxed, stylish, and fun.

Here are a handful of our favorites from their most recent maternity session.  Make sure to check back in the upcoming months for the arrival of their first baby girl.

Maternity Session

I am so excited to share highlights from Donny & Rachelle’s recent maternity session.  We have had the opportunity to photograph them on a number of occasions from their engagement session at Timberline to their destination wedding in St Lucia to their first son’s newborn session and 1 year session and family portraits at the Wooden Shoe  Tulip Farm.  It has been an absolute treat to document various milestones in Donny & Rachelle’s lives and especially now with the upcoming arrival of the newest member of the family.

We planned a casual portrait session outdoors toward the end of the day.  They wanted something relaxed and easy-going and a session that captured the three (soon to be 4) of them having fun.  Here are some highlights from the portrait session:

Rooney Turns 1

As a professional portrait photographer, nothing reminds you of how quickly time passes as when you re-connect with a family for a child’s 1 year session.  We photographed baby Rooney in the studio when she was just days old.  Now, almost a year later, we have re-connected for Rooney’s 1 year session.

I absolutely love photographing families in and around their home.  It adds a really nice personal touch to the session.  Blankets, favorite toys, and all sorts of outfits are readily available.

If you are considering portraits of your family, consider the convenience of having the session right at your home.  No travel is involved and your child is in the comfort of what is familiar to them.

Here are some highlights from Rooney’s 1 year session.

Michelle & Brian | April 27, 2013

Michelle & Brian exchanged vows at the St Timothy Lutheran Church on April 27, 2013.  They were surrounded by their closest friends and family members.  Prior to the ceremony, both Michelle and Brian got ready at separate locations nearby.  Michelle got ready at her own home and wanted to grab a quick photo with her chickens before heading to the ceremony.  If you have ever tried to round up chickens, you know how humorous it can be!

Following the ceremony, guests headed to Club Paesano at Cedarville Park for the reception.  Since there were quite a few children at the wedding, Michelle and Brian made sure to include various forms of entertainment.  There was a swing set and merry-go-round on the property that were rather popular.  They also had a bunch of hula hoops for the kids to play with — well — and the adults too!

After a short while many guests got up on the dance floor and showed their best hula hoop skills.  The winner for the evening however was Brian’s daughter.  She knew all sorts of tricks and could hula hoop the longest.

The wedding party played a game of musical chairs and made sure to get all the guests up on the dance floor having fun.  The party was upbeat and fun all night long.

Congratulations to Michelle & Brian!

Portland Engagement Session | Katie & Matthew

Katie & Matthew recently flew in from New York City to meet with a handful of their wedding vendors and to have their engagement session.  Since the couple lives in New York, they thought it would be fun to capture various elements of Portland during their session.  When I suggested places like the Hawthorne Bridge, the waterfront area, Tanner Springs Park, the Pearl District, and the Portland sign on Broadway, their response was — Yes!  Let’s do them all!  So that is exactly what we did.

When Matthew climbed out of the car to begin the session, he held up his bandaged left hand and said — “Oh yeah, and we have a bit of a challenge for you too.”  He was recently injured and had a large bandaged wrap around his left wrist.  I love challenges like these.  How many various ways can I pose a couple without exposing the man’s left wrist?  Well, take a look and see….  It peeks out just a little bit in one of the photos.  Can you tell which one?

Here are some highlights from Katie and Matthew’s engagement session in downtown Portland:
