Portland Engagement Session | Lisa & Tuffy

As a professional wedding photographer, I spend a considerable amount of time planning and preparing for my photo shoots.  This, among other things, gives me the creative freedom to be spontaneous.

When you don’t have to worry about logistics you can focus on what matters the most.  For me, it is capturing the moments that best express the spirit and love that exists between a couple.

When planning Lisa & Tuffy’s Portland engagement session, I pre-planned and charted out a course that capitalized on the fact that we would be shooting toward the later part of the day.  Lisa & Tuffy requested to have photos of them in the evening by some of Portland’s most iconic signs.  Knowing that we would be tailoring their photo session toward the later part of the day, I suggested that we meet in downtown Portland by the Saturday Market area to take advantage of some late day sun.  My pre-planning afforded us the ability to work quickly and efficiently thus maximizing the total number of images captured.

From the Saturday Market area, we then headed to some of Portland’s famous bridges as a backdrop.  As we entered into twilight, we began our way toward the Portland sign on Broadway.  During our transit to Broadway, however, we were stopped due to a train crossing.  It certainly was not in our plan for the evening.  However, it afforded us some of the more momentous images from the shoot.

It’s this type of spontaneity mixed with careful planning and preparation that always yields the best results.  Here are some of our favorites from Lisa & Tuffy’s downtown Portland engagement session:

Photographing a Photographer

It is an honor whenever someone hires you to capture their portrait, but even more so when it is a fellow photographer.  Ara with Aralani Photography asked if I could capture some updated photos of her with her team.

Ara chose the location and I took care of the rest.  Katherine and her associate with Event Cosmetics did the makeup from their downtown Portland location at the da:da Salon.  It was the perfect spot to then head into the hills for the photo session.

Thank you Ara for this fun opportunity to photograph you and your associates.

Meet Little Miss M

Having the opportunity to reconnect with previous clients is always a treat.  We photographed Julie & Alex’s wedding in Kauai in 2008 as well as a Portland reception they held later that same year.  This time, we got to meet up with the couple to photograph their latest addition to the family.

Little Miss M is as cute as can be.  She is sitting up all on her own and lights up whenever mom or dad is around.  We played some fun games of hide-and-seek and had little Miss M laughing and giggling away.

Here are just a small handful of favorites from Little Miss M’s portrait session:
