Katie & Rich | August 20, 2010

I originally met Katie & Rich at Kristin & Chad’s wedding last year.  I remember watching them at the wedding and thinking to myself…I hope to get the opportunity to photograph their wedding someday.  Well, my wish came true!  Katie & Rich tied the knot at the beautiful Oregon Gardens on August 20, 2010.

Katie & Rich did something a little different with their wedding photography and it is something I would like to share and strongly encourage those of you looking for a wedding photographer to consider.  They added an additional hour of coverage to their photography package to devote exclusively to the two of them.  I truly cannot think of a better gift to give each other.  Katie & Rich invested in their wedding photography and in time with each other to come away with a beautiful collection of work.  The pace of the day was nice and relaxed and it opened us up to all sorts of creative options for the couple.  Kudos to Katie & Rich for making photography such an important part of your day.  And a special thanks to their close friend Megan who assumed the role of wedding coordinator and did an incredible job.  She is pictured below signing the wedding certificate as a witness.  I have to say that I have NEVER seen a coordinator do that!!

Thank you so much Katie & Rich for the opportunity to document your wedding day.  It was such a pleasure meeting both of your families and I look forward to all the exciting news that lies ahead in your lives.  I will be up in Seattle next week for a wedding and if we can align our schedules, I would love to recount your day over a couple of drinks.  :)

Congratulations to you both!

Stunning portraits!

Luciana & Ryan | August 14, 2010

We have been looking forward to Luciana & Ryan’s wedding for quite some time.  From the moment we first met (to use one of my favorite puns), we just clicked.  From the early preparations to the amazing engagement session out on Cannon Beach and all the way up to the wedding, the day just couldn’t come soon enough.

Luciana & Ryan were married on August 14, 2010 at The Grotto.  The weather was quite warm, somewhere in the mid-90s, but we managed to stay cool and certainly had a lot of fun.  Following the ceremony, we strolled through the beautiful gardens located above the dramatic rock cliff where the ceremony had taken place.  A special thanks to Andrea with August Veils for providing Ladies in Waiting service throughout the entire formals session.  Having ice water on hand was REALLY appreciated.  :)

We then headed off to the reception at the Tiffany Center.  The couple was announced into the room and went straight into their first dance.  With Eric from All Wright Music at the helm, the party never stopped from there.  Guests filled the dance floor and busted some really groovy moves, the most notable of which came from the groom himself.

Thank you Marilyn with Portland Wedding Planner for all of your assistance throughout the day and thank you to all the vendors for making the day such a smashing success.

Check out Luciana & Ryan’s sneak peek wedding slideshow.

Ladies in Waiting Service

My Portland Photographer is a blog where 20 of Portland’s best wedding photographers post a new image each week.  It is a wonderful resource for those looking for a wedding photographer and as of very recent, we have begun adding additional information about the industry to our weekly posts.  Today’s post is about a lesser known service called Ladies in Waiting.

Ladies in Waiting is a service that provides the bride her own personal assistant.  Started by Andrea Hoyt, the owner of August Veils, Ladies in Waiting coverage lasts for 5 hours and includes such services as the pressing and delivery of the Bridal Gown and up to 4 other gowns.  In addition to attending to the bride’s needs on the day of the wedding, Ladies in Waiting service is a phenomenal investment in your wedding photography.  Andrea works close with the photographer to ensure everyone looks their absolute best.  From making little adjustments to the dress while taking pictures to having water on hand to reminding the bride to eat, Ladies in Waiting service is truly something to consider.

We have had the honor of working with Andrea on a number of weddings over the years and always appreciate her hard work and attentiveness to the bride’s needs.  Her creative eye and attention to detail — making even some of the slightest adjustments to the bride’s dress and veil have always made our photography look its absolute best.  Here are a couple of quotes from her recent clients:

“OMG I would never have gotten through the day with out you!”

“You kept me calm during the entire time getting ready and through all the photos!!”

Come meet Andrea in person at The Bridal Loft and let her know you heard of her service through our blog!

I too have been honored to work along side Andrea and her ladies in waiting staff. Fabulous and worth the investment. She is prepared for just about everything including broken zippers on the rental tuxedo pants of the groom. Really true story!

Paul these are really sweet shots of the bride. Hope she loves them. Great job!

Yes! I tell all of my clients about this service and 80% of them take advantage of it. It’s extremely affordable, and who doesn’t want to have a personal assistant on their wedding day? As a wedding coordinator, I would love more than anything to spend the entire time with the bride and groom and the wedding party. However, that is just not possible as I must manage all details of the event and all of the vendors. Andrea’s personality put everyone at ease and that also is reflected in the pictures!

Emily & Nick | August 8, 2010

Emily & Nick were married at the St Andrew Lutheran Church in Beaverton, OR on August 8, 2010.  We had the opportunity to explore the grounds of the church for various pictures with the couple and toward the end of the evening even snuck outside to a local park for some additional photos.  The flow of the day was absolutely seamless with the assistance of Marilyn from Portland Wedding Planner.  Also providing assistance was Amanda from Champagne Wedding & Events – who stunt doubles as a photographer’s assistant!

There are many neat little tidbits about Emily & Nick’s wedding that make it particularly sweet.  For example, in April of 1992, Emily’s parents planted a cherry tree in their front yard.  Well, over the years, the tree grew and grew, and provided enough cherry jam for all the guests as a parting gift.  The wedding cake was made by Emily’s mom.  And to round out the entire day, we walked over to the local park where Nick first proposed to Emily.  What a great way to end a spectacular day.

Congratulations to Emily & Nick!
