Baby Lola

Let me explain the story of how we got the opportunity to meet Baby Lola. It is a story that makes my job absolutely rewarding and fulfilling. Back in 2008, we photographed the wedding of Kylene & Jacob – a couple who found us through Style Me Pretty.  Then, a handful of months ago, Kylene & Jacob contacted us to document their newborn son Sawyer.  Well, they shared the photos with some of their friends.  Toya & Chris really liked the photos and wanted to have some pictures of their newborn daughter Lola.  So, they contacted us for a session.  When we met at the Portland Rose Garden, I knew right away that Chris looked very familiar to me, but I couldn’t quite figure out why…then realized it was because he was a groomsman in Kylene & Jacob’s wedding!  These connections and long lasting relationships with clients is something that I will always treasure.  We will be documenting Lola’s 12 month session as well, and I can’t wait to see her all grown up!

Melissa & Matt | August 7, 2010

There are people who feel comfortable in front of a camera and then there is Melissa & Matt.  These two are smashingly beautiful, unabashedly in love, and unbelievably great to work with.  Melissa chose The Nines Hotel as a location to get ready quite simply because she really likes the way the hotel photographs.  And quite frankly, so do we.  We then took off to meet up with Matt at Bridal Veil Lakes for the ceremony and reception.  Missy with Take 5 Photography was already there documenting away.

Melissa & Matt chose a unique arrangement of their guests for their ceremony.  Seating was arranged in a semi-circle around the couple with no center aisle.  It made for a very intimate experience and with the view of the lake in the background, the setting was just absolutely perfect.  Following the ceremony, guests walked along the tree lined path over to the reception area.  Melissa & Matt creatively incorporated elements of their location into their wedding reception.  Take for example, the oar.  Instead of a traditional guestbook, Melissa & Matt left an oar on the table for guests to sign.  What a great keepsake!  There were blankets and pillows left out for guests to cozy up to and enjoy the spectacular views.  From the floral to the oven grilled tossed pizzas, every element was well thought out and beautifully executed.  I thought it was particularly touching to see that in lieu of wedding favors, Melissa & Matt chose to make a donation to Foodshare Fund Northwest.

Congratulations to Melissa & Matt!  Check out the couple’s sneak peek wedding slideshow and be sure to vote on your favorite images below.

Alexis & Cuong | July 24, 2010

From the beautiful traditions and colorful clothing to the scrumptious food and warmth of friends and family, Vietnamese tea ceremonies are such a treat to photograph.  Alexis and Cuong prepared for their big day at their respective homes.  The men traveled to Alexis’ home by way of an extended Hummer limousine.  Following the tea ceremony, family members returned to Cuong’s house for an additional ceremony and authentic Vietnamese food.  Alexis then changed into a traditional Western style dress and Cuong changed from a black tuxedo to an all white tuxedo.  We then headed to Our Lady of La Vang Parish for a Western style ceremony.  Formal portraits with the wedding party were done at Laurelhurst Park on our way over to the reception at the Legin Restaurant.  It made for a very eventful day with multiple locations for shooting.

It is customary in Vietnamese weddings to have each guest photographed with the bride and groom as they arrive to the reception.  A backdrop was set up for these photos and we captured the couple with all of their guests.  It was a very fun way to kick off the evening’s festivities.  As a surprise to the guests, we had 4×6 prints turned around during dinner and placed out on display for everyone to see.  It was a huge hit and made for a wonderful parting gift for all the guests.

A special thanks to Lauren with Lauren Brooks Photography for providing additional photography coverage throughout the day.

Congratulations to Alexis & Cuong!  Check out the couple’s sneak peek wedding slideshow.

Liz & James | July 17, 2010

There are so many different types of weddings that we photograph each year, but amongst them all, I would have to say that backyard weddings are my favorite.  Liz & James exchanged vows in her parents’ backyard with a sweeping view of a winding river in the background.  The property was filled with lush gardens and personalized details throughout.  Liz & James hung photos from their childhood out on the clothesline for all the guests to see.  For those who have an artistic side, tiles were made available for guests to decorate and display.  The idea is that once the wedding is complete, Liz & James can use the tiles to make something for their home.  Family members donated their personal china so that each guest of the wedding had their own personalized table setting.  It made for a tremendously unique reception.  And no party is complete, without a Photobooth.  Photos were passed around all night long.

Congratulations to Liz & James!  Here is your wedding slideshow and a selection of our favorites from your wedding day:

Engagement Session | Jennifer & Patrick

During Jennifer’s time here as an intern at Paul Rich Studio, she has seen and witnessed many couples getting married.  And now it is her turn!

Jennifer & Patrick are getting married in Maui on 10/10/10.  I am photographing a wedding on October 9th and grabbing an early flight on the 10th to make it in time for the ceremony.  WOOO HOOO!

Jennifer absolutely loves photos (she just recently launched her very own photography business called Sweetbird Photography), so we wanted to show a small token of thanks for all her hard work and offer her an engagement session here in Portland.  Jennifer & Patrick brought their dog Cera and some really fun outfits to the session.  They went for a baseball theme given that Patrick is a huge Cubs fan.  And since the couple oftentimes goes for walks with Cera at Mt Tabor, it was only natural that we would start there.  We then transitioned down to the industrial area in SE Portland for a hip urban setting.

Congratulations to Jennifer & Patrick and I can’t wait to crash your wedding!!

Pre-Wedding Portraits | Amy & Javier

Amy is from Oregon.  Javier is from Spain.  The couple lives in Mexico but originally met in Afghanistan.  Talk about quite the story!  Amy & Javier had a wedding celebration at the EcoTrust Building on July 24th and prior to the festivities we met up in the Portland Park Blocks for some pre-wedding portraits.  The couple is also planning a wedding celebration in Spain next year.  And to add to all the excitement, the couple is also expecting their first child.  Congratulations to Amy & Javier!!

Engagement Session | Lizzie & Andrew

Lizzie & Andrew are the dream couple to work with. Get them ready to be photographed, and everything around them just dissolves. Lizzie & Andrew get lost in each other and the photographic moments unfold time after time after time. Watching these two play around is an absolute blast.

We are looking forward to Lizzie & Andrew’s wedding in September and are very excited to be working with Rachelle from Champagne Wedding & Events.
