Portrait with Paul

The way we communicate has forever changed.  With wireless technologies and gobs of various social media outlets, we stay in touch and we communicate with those around us with ever-increasing frequency.  It is truly phenomenal in scope and supremely powerful in bringing us all together so closely.

I was chatting with Dana on Facebook, a bride we had photographed not just over a week ago.  Knowing already that she had just returned from her honeymoon (evidenced by her humorous status updates), I asked her about her travels.  In fact, she was online because she was in the process of updating the photos from her trip onto Facebook.  How neat!

Well, while we were talking (IM’ing actually), Dana expressed excitement in seeing her photos soon.  I told her we were busily working away on the edit and everything was looking great.  Dana then mentioned that she was particularly interested in seeing the formal portrait we did together.  You see, when Dana sent in her formals list for our review — it included a portrait with me!!  I felt so honored.  Almost no one asks to have their portrait taken with their photographer!  So, rather than slow down their wedding day with a portrait of me, I decided to wait until the VERY end of the evening to take the picture.  I thought it was a lovely idea and after chatting with Dana, I decided I should put it up on the blog.  I feel like this may be the beginning of a new photo series for me this year.  Any other brides interested?

Pearl Catering: Menu Tasting

When the Outside Sales and Marketing Director for Urban Studio invited me to come by for a menu tasting, how could I possibly refuse?  Pearl Catering is known for their fabulous food and we have worked with them on a number of occasions at weddings and other various events.  There were two signature cocktails as part of the tasting — Blushing Bride & Peach Lemonade.  They were both absolutely fabulous.  Cupcakes were courtesy of Cupcake Jones and the floral was provided by Lavish Flora.  The whipped goat cheese and wild mushroom tartlet and the hazelnut chicken were my personal favorites.

For those of you who will be out for First Thursday this week, we recommend swinging by Urban Studio for a 1940′s inspired Casino Royale event.  Complimentary hors d’ouevres from 6-8pm and gaming with Team Casino until 10pm.

What a beautiful venue, and such a delicious looking spread! Those photos make me want to throw an event there!

Dana & Steven | April 23, 2010

Dana & Steven were married at the Old Laurelhurst Church on April 23, 2010.  Immediately following the ceremony, guests gathered around for a large group portrait.  It is so fun capturing all of the guests at the wedding all at once.  From there, Dana & Steven were wisked away by limousine to the reception at the Acadian Ballroom.

During Dana & Steven’s first dance, a slideshow of images played.  It was so neat to watch them dance and at the same time see pictures from their recent engagement session — really nice touch!  Following the toasts, Dana and Steven took a moment to thank all of their guests.  A really funny moment occurred when Steven, while thanking his parents, said, “I want to thank my parents for all that they have done to me.  I mean, for all they have done FOR me.”  The entire ballroom of guests erupted in laughter.  It was a great moment and a very touching speech by both Dana & Steven.

Paul you are a genius. Anyone that wants the best, need to come to you. You can capture a picture and tell a millions words by just looking at it. Or just one word and that will be: “WOW”. I love your work.

Baby Sawyer: 1 Month Session

This has been a very fun week at the studio.  It started off with Baby Lilly’s 1 Month Session and ended with Baby Sawyer’s 1 Month Session.  It was such a treat to see the differences in the baby’s personalities and so fun to spend a week around such little ones.  Having the opportunity to catch up with Brandi & Toby as well as Kylene & Jacob (2 of our couples from previous years) was a special treat as well.

Sawyer is a thinker.  He is very pensive.  He actively takes in the world around him and he looks absolutely adorable in his knitted hat (great choice mom)!  Here are a selection of images from our most recent session:
